Introduction
The Pictou County Health Authority offers
a wide range of specialist and family
practice opportunities. Located in northeastern
Nova Scotia, Pictou County offers excellent
professional opportunities in small town
and rural settings. The Pictou County
Health Authority is responsible for delivering
health care services to the 48,000 residents
of Pictou County as well as regional programs
to the greater
population of northeastern Nova Scotia.
Services and programs are delivered through
the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow,
Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital in
Pictou, Addiction Services, Mental Health
Services and Public Health Services.
Although New Glasgow is a small rural
town it is by no means isolated. The
Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow and Sutherland
Harris Memorial Hospital in Pictou are
just 90 minutes from the provincial capital
of Halifax and the Halifax International
Airport. New Glasgow is
35 minutes from Antigonish, home
of St. Francis Xavier University, and
minutes away from the Northumberland
Strait that boasts the warmest waters
north of the Carolinas and some
of the most beautiful beaches in Nova
Scotia. The local area has excellent golf
courses, beaches and the added benefits
of small town living.
The Aberdeen Hospital is a regional
facility providing a broad range of primary
and secondary services through inpatient,
outpatient and community-based services.
The hospital has 104
beds. Services provided include: anesthesia,
cardiology, diagnostic imaging, emergency,

a regional emergency department providing
trauma service (Level II) and has approximately
30,000 visits per year. It is staffed
by five full-time
