It is a combined oral hormonal contraceptive drug containing norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. When taking norgestrel orally, it suppresses the pituitary secretion of gonadotropic hormones. Contraceptive action is enhanced by ethinyl estradiol. It retains a high viscosity of the cervical mucus (makes it difficult for sperm to penetrate into the uterine cavity). Along with the contraceptive effect with regular use, it normalizes the menstrual cycle and helps prevent the development of a number of gynecological diseases, including neoplastic nature.

How does it work?

A contraceptive prescribed for oral use. It inhibits the gonadotropic function of the pituitary gland, inhibits the development of the follicle and interferes with the process of ovulation. The contraceptive effect is enhanced by increasing the viscosity of cervical mucus and reducing the susceptibility of the endometrium to the blastocyte.

How to take?

If during the previous menstrual cycle, hormonal contraception was not conducted, then Ovral for the purpose of contraception is prescribed from the 1st day of menstruation. The regimen: 1 tablet daily for 28 days. 7 latest pills are placebo containing gestagen only. During their application, menstruation comes.

Can it be used as emergency contraception?

It can be used as emergency contraception. Take 2 white pills within 120 hours after unprotected sex and 2 more white pills 12 hours later. Each dose contains 0.5 mg of levonorgestrel and 100 µg of ethinyl estradiol.Ovral_ Effective Means for Birth Control

The pack contains 28 tablets, they are taken daily without interruption (7 tablets contain placebo). If menstruation is delayed, pregnancy should be excluded. At the onset of menstruation, the drug is resumed 7 days after taking the last pill of the previous cycle. If, on the background of the regular application, menstruation has not come, after the exclusion of pregnancy, the intake is continued. If there are no 2 consecutive menstruations, it is necessary to exclude pregnancy before continuing.

Missed pills

The missed pill should be taken within the next 12 hours. If 36 hours have passed since the last pill was taken, the contraception is unreliable. In order to avoid intermenstrual bleeding, the drug intake should be continued from the already started packaging with the exception of the missed tablet (s). In case of missed pills, it is recommended to additionally use another, non-hormonal method of contraception (eg, barrier).

Do not exceed the recommended dose. Excessive drug use does not alleviate your condition, and can also cause poisoning and serious side effects. If you observe an overdose of Ovral, contact the emergency services.

Do not transfer your preparations to other people, even if they are in the same state as you, or you think that your states have a number of similar symptoms, because this can lead to an overdose.

Please consult your doctor or pharmacist, and also review the information on the product packaging.
